What is the Mount Pakenham "Ski Swap"?
Have the kids outgrown their equipment? Are you a new skier looking for an inexpensive way to start skiing? Are you looking to upgrade your equipment? If so, you'll find what you need at our annual ski and snowboard sale/swap.
In addition to our large selection of used equipment entered into the swap by fellow members of the community, we will have a local retailer on site to offer you great discounts on new and used equipment. Each year we are also grateful to enjoy treats from the annual CADS Bake Sale along with our BBQ & Lounge offering food and beverage.
How Does the Ski and Snowboard Sale Work?
Selling Equipment
If you have equipment to sell, please bring it to the main lodge the week prior to the Sale. The dates and hours will be listed above. When you arrive, a staff member will inspect your equipment to make sure that it is acceptable. Straight skis, very old boots, and bindings that are not on the current indemnified bindings list will not be accepted.
Once the equipment has passed inspection, you fill out a sales tag for each item. You will be responsible for setting the prices for each item. If you have any questions, a staff member will be available to offer advice. There is a $2/item handling fee charged when dropping off equipment. Please keep your copy of the sales tag.
On the weekend of the sale, Mount Pakenham will have plenty of experts on hand to assist with sales. We will also have security on site at all times to ensure the safety of your equipment but please remember that any equipment left at Mount Pakenham is entirely at your own risk.
If your equipment sells, we will mail you a cheque for the price less a 15% commission. Cheques will take 2-3 weeks to process. If the equipment doesn't sell, please bring your copy of the sales tag when you pick up your equipment. If your unsold equipment has not been picked up by November 10, it will be donated or disposed of.
What Can I Sell?
Mount Pakenham will accept all ski and snowboard equipment as long as it meets standards. We also accept winter outerwear, helmets, ski racks, skates, snowshoes, snowblades, Nordic and Telemark equipment and other gear.
Buying Equipment
If you are looking for equipment, Mount Pakenham's Sale is the place to go. We have a large selection of equipment for everyone. You will find: skis, boots, poles, ski suits, snowboards, snowboard boots, helmets, Nordic and Telemark gear, skates, snowshoes and more. The trick is to come early!
To find the best deals, many people come a bit early. The doors will open at 9am. Coffee and baked goods will be available Saturday morning after 8am. The line-up will be primarily outside in the morning - please dress warmly!
Once the doors open, the best word to describe the first 3 hours of the Sale is Busy, but the savings are worth it! We limit the number of people who are allowed to enter the building and our experts will assist customers as quickly as possible. Please do not bring strollers as space is limited. When you have found your used equipment bargains, the cashier is at the Front Desk. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Debit and cash. Please hang onto your receipt as you will need it to leave the building. Our ski/snowboard technicians are available to adjust ski bindings or snowboards at a special 'Ski Swap price.
If you can't make it to the Sale on Saturday morning, it is still worth a trip to Mount Pakenham to check out the stock. We usually still have some great bargains throughout the weekend. Between the huge selection of used equipment and the large stock of retailer equipment, you won't be leaving empty handed. Please remember to pay for retailer equipment with the local retailer and keep your receipt handy.
The Sale weekend is also a great time to take advantage of our Seasons Pass discounts. The BBQ will be fired up and we will offer discounted ski and snowboard tune ups (wax and sharpen edges).
